…more about me (& my art)

i am a settler on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples:
a mosaic of creative ancestry; stitched together by people who chose to see me and nurture my artistry.
with roots in rhythm and grooves, i am a collector of disciplines,
continuing the work of my mentors as a catalyst for collective meaning-making.
inspired by physical environments, yet not limited to their restraints,
i seek to cultivate shared spaces for unearthing our common ground,
no matter who is in the room.
i aim to listen to those who have been silenced,
and foster spaces for forgiveness.

guts-in,

guard-down,

my learning never ends.

so let’s be malleable;

let’s synch up our heartbeats,

let’s jam !

Skye in her role as “Texas” in Randolph College’s production of Cabaret

bio

Skye Rogers is a multidisciplinary performing artist, located on the territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples. With a robust foundation in dance, theatre, and music, her work intersects a collection of mediums, and is devoted to cultivating connection in both personal and communal spheres. Skye has trained at Randolph College for the Performing Arts, where she received the Triple Threat Award, the Governor General’s Bronze Medallion, and represented her class as Valedictorian. She is now completing a certificate in Arts and Culture Studies at Brock University.

Skye is the child of both a writer and a musician, tracing her earliest influences back to infancy, with figures such as John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Martha Graham, and Lionel Koechlin framing her foundation. Through her own artistic metamorphosis, Skye is also inspired by the artists and teachers who have mentored her through the years; Alice Burke, Debbie Wilson, Liz Gilroy, and writing duo Johnston & Johnson, to name a few. Relationships are the axis of Skye’s artistry, and her gratitude towards her mentors and peers is something she now hopes to translate in her enthusiasm with her own teaching practice. In her creative work, her embodied style is collage-like; informed by the shapes and spaces of her surroundings, and the rhythm and grooves of her musical pulse. Fluently articulating herself through her extremities, Skye’s vision is to expand her audience’s capacity for emotion, imagination, and compassion.

While her credits stretch wide, some of Skye’s favorite projects include her role as “Peggy” in JIN’s Get Back music video, “Drosselmeyer” in The Nutcracker (Niagara Ballet), Dancer and Choreographer in Babble (Expect Theatre’s “Beats + Intentions” Residency), “Texas” and Dance Captain in Cabaret (Randolph College), and “Jill” in the original cast of One Small Step (Johnston & Johnson). Skye is currently engaged in the Nest Residency with Suitcase in Point Multi-Arts Company, where she is devising a piece for this Summer’s “In the Soil” arts-festival.
